At the time being of our tour Isla Mujeres was the spot with the highest chance of swimming with the whale sharks. Although reaching these locations requires a journey of approximately 2.5-3 hours from Tulum. The car journey will be 1.5-2 hours, then you’ll be on the water for an hour to get to the deep waters where the whale sharks are located. But the experience is well worth the effort.
