Getting to Torpesand Strand & Björnö Nature Reserve

By car, search for "Torpesand strand" and park in the paid parking area conveniently located near the beach. If you prefer public transport, buses 428 and 429 from Slussen will get you to Björnö Nature Reserve in about 40-50 minutes. Just search for "Björnö Nature Reserve." Note: If there are illegally parked cars blocking the road, the bus might have to stop at an alternative location.

Torpesand Strand Amenities

For swimming, you can choose between beautiful cliffs and soft sandy beaches. Torpesand offers a popular beach with both cliff and sand options. It can get crowded, but you can follow the forest path along the water to find a more secluded spot. There is hidden spots to the right of Björkviks brygga like a charming little pebble beach someone has named "Pebble Beach."

Facilities include changing rooms and toilets near the snorkeling trail, as well as a grill area. If you’re hungry, there’s also a bistro for lunch or dinner at Björkviks Brygga.

What to Do at Torpesand Strand or Björnö Nature Reserve

You can sunbathe and swim from the cliffs, the pier, or the sandy beach. The water is clear and beautiful. Try the snorkeling trail from the pier or hike up the hill for a breathtaking view of the entire beach. We brought a cooler and enjoyed grilling at the designated area. We visited in mid-May on a warm, sunny afternoon and found the water surprisingly pleasant. We were almost alone, but this spot is likely much busier during the summer months. For a more private experience, consider visiting in late spring or early summer.

Facts About Björnö Nature Reserve

Björnö Nature Reserve was established in 1983 and is situated on the Björnö peninsula, itself part of Ingarö. In 1981, the Archipelago Foundation purchased Björnö from the Wallenberg family's real estate company, Stockholm-Saltsjön, and two years later, it became a nature reserve. One of the first actions taken by the Foundation was to restore the overgrown pastures and meadows. Småängsgården was built at Småängsviken as part of these efforts.

The reserve boasts a diverse range of environments, including active farmland, rocky pine forests, spruce forests, pine bogs, deciduous swamps, and noble deciduous forests. There are several swimming spots and meadows perfect for camping. Don’t miss the lookout tower at Småängsuddarna for a panoramic view over Nämdöfjärden.
