If you're in Abisko or Björkliden, a perfect day trip is the enchanting hike through the Kärkevagge valley to Rissájávri, also known as Trollsjön. The Sami name Rissájávri translates to "the lake that gleams like fire," reflecting its stunning, crystal-clear waters that sparkle in the sunlight. This hike offers an unforgettable adventure through one of Northern Sweden's most beautiful landscapes.
During our stay in Abisko, we decided to embark on the famous day hike to Trollsjön and Kärkevagge. This 12 km round-trip hike is not only easy but offers an unforgettable journey through Northern Sweden's scenic landscapes. The hike begins with a pleasant walk through a lush green valley, surrounded by towering mountains and adorned with thousands of stones, providing plenty of fun photo opportunities. The valley is also home to beautiful native Swedish alpine flora, adding to the trail's charm.
Although the weather was a bit tricky during our trip, we were fortunate to enjoy sunshine all the way up and down. However, it was very windy at the top and around the lake, so be prepared for gusty conditions even if it seems calm further down. Trollsjön, with its bright blue, crystal-clear waters, was a sight to behold. We even brought our dog along, making it clear that this trail is suitable for furry friends as well.
