Help preserve the pristine beauty of Caminito del Rey by packing out all waste. Remember, no trash cans are available along the trail, so be sure to leave no trace behind. Dogs are not permitted on the hike due to the spacing between the wooden steps and the boardwalk. Smoking is strictly prohibited along the entire trail to prevent the risk of wildfires. Swimming in the river is not allowed, as there is no designated safe entry point and the area is a protected natural environment.

The most convenient way to reach Caminito del Rey is by car, offering flexibility, especially for travelers embarking on an Andalusia road trip. If you're based in Malaga, it's just over an hour's drive to Caminito del Rey, making it an ideal day trip destination. Additionally, visitors staying in the picturesque white villages of Andalusia can easily include a visit to Caminito del Rey in their itinerary. During our trip, we were based in Nerja and found that the hike was just a 1.5-2 hour drive away, making it easily accessible for a day of adventure.

Getting to Caminito Del Rey By Public Transport

Alternatively, you can opt for public transport to reach Caminito del Rey. From Malaga, take a train to the nearby town of El Chorro. Direct trains operate at convenient times throughout the day, making it accessible for day trippers. Upon arrival at El Chorro, shuttle buses depart every 30 minutes, shuttling visitors to the trailhead. The shuttle service runs from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM in winter and extends until 8 PM during the summer months, providing ample opportunities for exploration. The cost of the shuttle bus is 2 EUR (2.05 USD), offering an affordable and eco-friendly transportation option for adventurers.

Arrive at the northern entrance of Caminito del Rey, where parking is available for a nominal fee of 2 euro. Should parking be limited, roadside options are also accessible, though caution is advised due to passing buses.

Caminito Del Rey Trail Entrance

Starting from the parking area, begin your journey by turning left and proceeding until you spot a tunnel on your right-hand side. Walk through this tunnel for approximately 5 minutes until you emerge onto a road. From there, continue along the road for about 10 minutes until you reach the designated entrance point, where you'll present your tickets for admission.

Overall, the walk from the parking area to the entrance takes approximately 20 minutes, offering a pleasant introduction to the adventure that awaits along Caminito del Rey.

Upon arrival, present your tickets at the entrance and collect your mandatory helmet. This is your final opportunity for restroom facilities and vending machine refreshments before embarking on the trail.

Caminito Del Rey Opening Hours

Caminito del Rey welcomes visitors every day of the year, with the exception of Mondays. The trail is accessible from 9:00 h. Until 14:50 h. / 17:20 h. (depending on the season), offering ample opportunity for exploration and adventure. Please note that Caminito del Rey is closed on December 24th, 25th, 31st and January 1st, ensuring that visitors plan their trips accordingly.

Getting a Ticket to Caminito Del Rey

Secure your Caminito del Rey tickets in advance to guarantee entry, particularly during peak seasons. Choose from self-guided or guided tours, with various time slots available to suit your schedule.

Opt for early morning time slots to avoid the midday heat, and remember to display your tickets digitally for seamless entry.

Due to the high demand and limited availability of online tickets, we found ourselves embarking on our Caminito del Rey adventure without prior booking. Arriving before dawn, we joined a substantial queue forming outside the entrance, with approximately a hundred eager visitors already gathered.

For those facing the same predicament of unavailable online tickets, fret not. At the gate, tickets can be purchased for 10 euros each, payable by card or cash, offering a chance to secure entry on the spot. While this approach doesn't guarantee entry, many visitors have reported success in obtaining tickets at the gate.

However, it's essential to note that only a limited number of tickets (6% of the daily capacity of 1100 visitors) are available for on-site purchase. The timing of entry depends on the number of people present for each allocated time slot, with a maximum of 60 individuals allowed every half-hour. Although waiting times may vary, the majority of visitors experience minimal delays, typically not exceeding an hour. Nonetheless, arriving early, especially on weekends or holidays, is advisable to enhance the chances of securing entry promptly.

Even if faced with a wait, the captivating scenery surrounding the entrance provides a tranquil backdrop, offering a glimpse of the natural wonders awaiting exploration along the Caminito del Rey.

It's important to remember that the entrance to Caminito del Rey is located at the reservoirs/kings chair/el kiosko side, also known as the north entrance. Accessing the trail from the El Chorro (south) side is not possible.
