Full Komodo Island Travel Guide
If you’re planning on exploring the Komodo Islands, you’re in for a real treat. The best…
Let me tell you about a place that stole my heart – the Seychelles Islands! This collection of 115 coral and granite islands off the east coast of Kenya is known as “paradise on earth,” and it’s easy to see why.
The coastlines are dotted with magnificent boulders, giving the beaches a magical touch. The Seychelles is famous for its protected marine sanctuaries, nature reserves, and unique species like the giant Aldabra tortoises and Coco de Mer palm.
If you’re a nature enthusiast, you can explore the lush jungles and discover rare wildlife. Or maybe you prefer to relax on picture-perfect beaches and soak up the sun? If adventure is your game, dive in and explore the underwater world.
Here’s the good news – the Seychelles Islands are blessed with year-round sunshine, so there’s no bad time to visit. However, if you want the best weather, I recommend visiting during the months of April through May and October through November. These months offer mild conditions that are perfect for sunbathing, wildlife watching, and scuba diving.
If you’re planning a summertime visit (June through September), you’ll enjoy cooler and drier weather but be prepared for the high season crowds. It’s best to book your accommodations several months in advance and expect to pay peak-season prices.
Language: The Seychelles has two official languages: English and Seselwa, a Creole language based on French. While English is widely spoken and understood, you’ll also hear Creole being spoken by locals. Knowing a few phrases in Creole can be a great way to connect with the Seychellois people and learn more about their culture.
Currency: The local currency used in the Seychelles is the Seychelles rupee (SCR). For every $1 USD, you’ll get approximately 13.50 SCR.
Getting Around: Getting around the Seychelles is easy, and the mode of transportation you choose will depend on your location. The bus service on Mahé and Praslin is affordable and efficient, making it a great option for budget travelers. If you’re planning on exploring multiple islands, the reliable ferry services are a great way to get around. You can sit back, relax, and take in the stunning views of the Indian Ocean as you hop from island to island.
Credit Cards: To make sure you have enough cash to get around the Seychelles, it’s a good idea to bring some of your own currency and exchange some for Seychelles rupees. Many tourist spots prefer US dollars or euros, so it’s always handy to have some on hand. To get the best exchange rate, consider withdrawing Seychelles rupees from an ATM with your debit card. This is generally a more cost-effective option than exchanging cash at a bureau de change or hotel, but be sure to check with your bank about any foreign transaction fees that may apply.
Voltage: When traveling to the Seychelles, it’s important to know that the power plugs and sockets are type G, which means you’ll need to bring a universal adapter to ensure your electronics are compatible. The standard voltage is 240V, and the standard frequency is 50Hz, so you’ll also need to bring a converter if you plan to use appliances like hair dryers and hot tools.
Water: Tap water is generally safe to drink, but it’s worth noting that it has a high chlorine content, which can be off-putting to some. For this reason, many people prefer to drink bottled water during their stay. It’s also important to keep in mind that during the summer months, the water supply may be turned off for a few hours each day in an effort to conserve this precious resource.
