Tanzania’s weather can be unpredictable since the country is so vast, but there are some patterns you can follow. There are two rainy seasons, from March to May and from November to December. If you want to experience the best weather, visit during the dry season from June to October.

If you’re hoping to witness the Great Migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra, then make sure to plan your trip for June and July. But don’t worry, even if you’re not coming for the migration, the dry summer months force animals to watering holes, making them easier to spot on a safari.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Language: The official language is Swahili! But don’t worry if you don’t speak Swahili, because many Tanzanians also speak English. It’s a multilingual nation with a variety of languages spoken across the country. So, whether you’re planning to say “jambo” or “hello,” you’ll be able to communicate just fine.

Currency: The official currency is the Tanzanian shilling (TZS). As of now, 1 USD is equivalent to 2299 TZS.

Credit Cards: Credit cards, especially Visa, are widely accepted. This means that you can use your card at park entrances, upscale hotels, and some tour operators. However, it’s always a good idea to call ahead and make sure that your credit card is accepted if you plan on using it to book something. If you need some cash, ATMs are widespread in major towns and are available 24/7. But, if you’re traveling to remote areas, finding an ATM might be challenging, so it’s best to withdraw cash before you head out.

Voltage: It’s important to know that the plugs there come in two types: D and G. The standard voltage is 230 V, and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. So, make sure to bring a universal adapter with surge protection to keep your electronics charged and ready to go.

Water: It’s important to keep in mind that Tanzania, like any other country, has its own set of safety concerns. However, overall, it’s a safe country to visit, especially if you’re going on an organized safari or tour. In fact, nearly a million tourists visit Tanzania every year without any issues.
