As you might be aware, Egypt’s landscape is primarily desert, which means temperatures can soar. To make the most of your trip, it’s advisable to consider the weather. The optimal time to explore Egypt falls between October and April.

However, keep in mind that December and January mark the peak tourist season, resulting in longer queues at popular attractions like the Temples of Luxor and the Pyramids of Giza. Additionally, resort rates tend to skyrocket during these months.

If you don’t mind the heat, the summer months bring temperatures in the 90s along with high humidity, but they also offer fewer crowds. Given that many ancient sites are open-air, it’s wise to schedule your sightseeing for early morning or late afternoon to escape the midday heat.

For those eager to explore the Red Sea’s underwater wonders through snorkeling or scuba diving, June to September presents the ideal window to visit the beach resorts.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Language: The primary language spoken in Egypt is Egyptian Arabic, also known as Masri/Masry.

Currency: The official currency used in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound (EGP).

Credit Cards & ATMs: Trendier establishments like clubs, bars, restaurants, shops, and hotels in Egypt typically accept major debit and credit cards. Some shops display signs indicating whether they accept foreign cards, but it’s advisable to confirm with cashiers or waiters before making purchases.

ATMs are readily available in major cities like Cairo and Alexandria, but they are less common in smaller cities and rural areas.

Plugs: Power plugs in Egypt are type C and F, with a standard voltage of 220 V and frequency of 50 Hz. It’s recommended to purchase a universal adapter with surge protection and to use a converter for devices like hairdryers and hot tools.

Safety: Despite a drop in tourism after the 2011 revolution, Egypt has seen stabilization in its political situation in recent years, leading to increased tourism.

Overall, Egypt is considered a safe destination, but travelers should be mindful of their surroundings.

The northern half of Sinai is deemed unstable and best avoided.

When visiting popular tourist sites like the pyramids, it’s prudent to opt for guided tours or hire private guides for added safety.
