Get ready to lace up your hiking boots and immerse yourself in the enchanting journey to this awe-inspiring viewpoint. The Rampestreken adventure awaits – are you ready to ascend to new heights?
In this post, I'm diving into the heart of Norway's stunning landscapes to bring you an ultimate guide to an epic hiking experience: the remarkable Rampestreken Viewpoint. Brace yourself for jaw-dropping vistas, heart-pounding ascents, and a little adventure that packs a big punch.
Imagine standing at the edge of the world, a towering viewpoint 537 meters above sea level, gazing down upon the charming town of Åndalsnes. The Romsdal region sprawls beneath you, the Rauma River winding through the valley. This isn't just a hike; it's a rendezvous with Norwegian majesty.
Location: Åndalsnes
Distance: 2.6 km round-trip
Elevation: 520 meters
Hike duration: 2 hours
Difficulty: Moderate
Parking Near Rampestreken Trailhead
If you're planning to drive, park at the trail's starting point – we did, and luck was on our side with a parking spot. However, keep in mind that peak days might lead to a full parking lot. Fear not; alternative spots are nearby. Now, onto the trail!
Rampestreken's Climb
With the town behind you, the path climbs steeply until you reach Rampestreken. It's classified as a moderate hike, embraced by locals as an exercise choice rewarded by awe-inspiring views. The trail begins gently but morphs into a steep ascent, featuring forest floors, sherpa steps, roots, rocks, and even airy sections. Helpful signposts guide your way.
Around 430 meters above sea level, the trail transforms into stone steps, an enchanting Nepalese Sherpa creation called Romsdalstrappa. These steps provide a sturdy path to the top, marked by signs and red paint. Along the way, elevation signs keep you updated every 100 meters.
Rampestreken Viewpoint
As you approach the viewpoint, you'll encounter Rampestreken, a 20-meter steel ramp – 8 meters suspended in thin air. Standing on this platform is an otherworldly experience, as if you're hovering over Åndalsnes and the fjord below. Note: busy days might entail a brief wait to step onto the platform.
Continuing to Nesaksla
If you're up for more, continue to Nesaksla, just 20 minutes away. Stone steps pave the path, leading you to a summit 715 meters above sea level.
While I had to bow out due to illness on this particular day, Nesaksla remains on my hiking bucket list. And don't miss out on the treat that follows the hike – restaurant Eggen, perched on the mountain, where you can indulge in delicious views after conquering this unforgettable journey.
Water, Snacks, and Gear
Pack water and snacks – trust me, they're your hiking allies. Choose proper footwear or sneakers, on this particular day I wore sneakers which I would only recommend you to do during good weather conditions. The estimated time to reach the viewpoint is around 1-1.5 hours and the return takes about an hour.
